You can tie up the stop cock arm but then you have got to watch how you use the water worse still its the middle of winter and all that water thats running down your path is going to freeze and you have visitors calling round tonight.
All you need is a plastic bag and an elastic band or string. First tie up the ball cock arm then unscrew the ball drain the ball cock this will probably involve making a hole in it large enough to get the water out, when this is done place the plastic bag on the now empty ball cock and seal with the elastic band, expand the elastic band to allow you to get the ball cock arm to be inserted and screw the ball cock home.
once done this fix will give you plenty of time to get the repair done at your convenience.
